Our trips to the Holy Land provide a breathtaking time in Jerusalem, Bethlehem, and Nazareth, and all the sites within reach. Our September 2020 trip will begin in Amman, Jordan, and will include Jerash, Mount Nebo, Wadi Rum, and the incredible Petra.

This trip is 50% Holy Land pilgrimage, 50% learning about the modern Middle East, and 100% photography and food!

Day 1: Travel and arrive in Bethlehem
Day 2: Bethlehem: Church of the Nativity, St. Jerome Caves, Milk Grotto, Shepherd’s Fields, Separation Wall
Day 3: Jerusalem: Church of the Holy Sepulchre, Via Dolorosa, Church of St. Anne, Pools of Bethsaida, Ecce Homo Church
Day 4: West Bank: Ramallah, Jericho, Jesus’s Baptism Site, Judean Desert
Day 5: Peace & Justice making organization visits, wall tour
Day 6: Masada, Herod’s Fortress, Qumran (Dead Sea Scrolls Caves), Dead Sea
Day 7: Jerusalem: Mount of Olives, Dominus Flevit Church, St. Peter in Gallicantu Church, Garden of Gethsemane, Dome of the Rock, Free time
Day 8: Hebron: Abraham’s Tomb, Lunch with local family, Jewish Settlements, glass factory
Day 9: Magdala, Cana Wedding Church; Capernaum: synagogue, St. Peter’s house; Tabgha: Church of the Loaves and Fishes, Church of St. Peter’s Primacy; Mount of Beatitudes. Sail on the Sea of Galilee.
Day 10: Mediterranean coast: Caesarea by the Sea, Jaffa, Tel Aviv. Overnight flights to the US.

Leadership:

Rev. Steven D. Martin is the founding Director of the Lakelands Institute. He has served United Methodist Churches as pastor for twenty years and is a graduate of Candler School of Theology. He brings his expertise in theology, the intersection of faith and politics, and media production to bear upon today’s most challenging problems.

An accomplished filmmaker and communicator, he has produced several films for public television. His writing has appeared in America’s top national media outlets including the Washington Post and USA Today. He speaks frequently at churches, seminaries, and conventions across the US.

Steve has led numerous trips to the Holy Land.
